It felt like I had won the lottery. I couldn’t stop talking about it. After hours of waiting in a virtual queue, anxiously watching the numbers tick down and ignoring my work for this very magazine, I managed to snag six tickets to Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour on her third night at MetLife Stadium. The odds of even getting to this part of the purchasing process were slim: Just around 40% the people who registered for the presale were granted the privilege of trying to buy tickets. The whole experience, though stressful, felt like a stroke of luck.
When Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour presale launched months later, I felt confident. I was lucky with Taylor. I can do this again, I thought. But sadly, my good fortune ran out. Now I’m at the mercy of the resale market, hoping prices and demand won’t remain outrageous the closer we get to her New York stop. (It’s not looking good.)
