World Hunger

Album: CRY

Label: Reach Records

Objective
Students will explore how to respond to the world’s physical and spiritual hunger with compassion, as Jesus did. They will reflect on serving others and sharing God’s love, focusing on the spiritual hunger for Jesus highlighted in Hulvey’s song.

Warm Up
Start by asking the students to think about a time when they felt hungry—whether it was physical hunger, a longing for something deeper, or a feeling of emptiness. Ask them to briefly share what that hunger was and how they tried to satisfy it.

  • When you’ve felt hungry in life, how did you try to satisfy that hunger?
  • Do you think people in the world experience spiritual hunger in a similar way? How might they try to fill that need?
  • What are some things that people commonly look to for fulfillment that don’t truly satisfy?
  • When you think of world hunger, how do you see it affecting people spiritually? What do you think they are truly longing for?

Transition
The world experiences many forms of hunger—physical, emotional, and spiritual. Hulvey’s song “World Hunger” reminds us that only Jesus can satisfy the spiritual hunger. As Christians, we are called to meet both physical and spiritual needs, sharing Christ’s hope and love through our actions and message.

The Song
Play “World Hunger” by Hulvey.

  • How does this song reflect God’s heart for both the physical and spiritual needs of the world?
  • What do you think Hulvey is saying about how we should respond to world hunger—not just physically, but spiritually?
  • How does this song challenge you to think about serving others in both physical and spiritual ways?
  • How can you make a difference in addressing spiritual hunger around you?

Wrap Up
As Christians, we are called to reflect God’s compassion and justice by serving others in tangible ways. Think about one way you can serve someone in need this week, whether it’s through a simple act of kindness, providing for someone physically, or offering spiritual support.

Let’s pray together:

“God, thank You for Your heart for the needy. Help us to see the world the way You do and to respond with love and compassion. Guide us as we serve others, and help us to be the hands and feet of Jesus in a hurting world. Amen.”
