Objective
Students will learn that even a small amount of genuine faith can lead to big results when placed in Jesus.
Warm Up
Faith To Move It Challenge – Give each group a small lightweight object (ping-pong ball, crumpled paper, etc.) and a straw. Challenge them to “move the mountain” (the object) across a table using only the air from their straw.
Once complete, tie in the visual: sometimes God asks us to trust Him with something that feels small or silly, but faith—no matter how small—can move what seems impossible.
Discuss:
- Who in your life shows strong faith in Jesus?
- What stands out about the way they live out that faith?
- If you could ask Jesus for one thing, what would it be?
Transition
We often ask Jesus for things we know we can’t get on our own: healing for someone sick, comfort when we’re hurting, or miracles when things seem impossible. In today’s clip, a Roman centurion named Gaius comes to Jesus with one of those impossible requests.

Transition
Gaius shows humility and deep faith. He believes that Jesus can heal his son with just a word. Jesus calls that kind of faith remarkable. But this is not the only time in Scripture where faith moved Jesus to act. Let’s look at a few other moments when ordinary people believed in extraordinary ways and saw God’s power at work.
Bible Study
Read Mark 5:25-34
A woman who had suffered for twelve years pushes through a crowd, believing that even touching Jesus’ clothes will bring her healing.
- Place yourself in the crowd. What are you seeing/hearing/feeling?
- What do you imagine it felt like to fight through the crowd just to reach Jesus?
- Why do you think she believed simply touching His clothes would heal her?
- What stands out to you about Jesus noticing her faith and stopping for her?
- How do you think her life changed after that moment?
- What does this story show us about the personal nature of faith and healing?
Read Matthew 14:22-33
In the middle of a storm, Jesus walks on water toward His disciples, and Peter steps out of the boat in faith to meet Him.
- Place yourself in the boat. What are you seeing/hearing/feeling?
- What do you think went through Peter’s mind as he stepped out of the boat?
- How does this story show both faith and fear at work at the same time?
- What do you think Peter learned about himself and about Jesus through this experience?
- How do you usually respond when you start to doubt what God can do?
- What can this story teach us about keeping our eyes on Jesus in hard times?
Read Genesis 22:1-19
God tests Abraham’s faith by asking him to sacrifice his son Isaac, but provides a ram at the last moment as a substitute.
- Place yourself in the story. What are you seeing/hearing/feeling?
- How do you think Abraham felt walking up that mountain, knowing what God had asked him to do?
- What do you think Isaac might have been thinking during this experience?
- What does this story reveal about Abraham’s trust in God’s character?
- How does this event point forward to Jesus’ sacrifice for us?
- What can this passage teach us about trusting God when we do not understand His plan?
Wrap Up
All three of these stories show people who faced impossible situations but chose to believe that God could do what seemed unthinkable. Each act of faith drew God’s attention and revealed His power in a personal way.
Gaius shows that same kind of trust. As a Roman officer, he had authority and status, but he knew that his power couldn’t save his son. He recognized that Jesus carried an authority greater than his own. Gaius believed Jesus could heal with just a word, yet doubted whether he deserved Jesus’ attention.
That is often where we find ourselves: believing Jesus can do something but wondering if He will for us. Jesus reminds us that even a “mustard seed” kind of faith is enough. When our trust is placed in Him, He does what only He can do, and nothing is impossible.
