What Happens At Camp Changes The World

I am a product of camp.

That’s not a sentimental statement. It’s a conviction shaped by experience. In my life, camp has always been ground zero. When I look back on the moments that formed my faith, clarified my calling, and shaped how I approach ministry today, most of them trace back to camp. In a lot of ways, everything I really needed to know, I learned there.

Camp is where I learned that if young people can laugh together and play together, they will worship together. It’s where walls come down, distractions fade out, and students are given space to encounter God in a way that feels both deeply personal and powerfully communal. Ask almost anyone who’s been to camp what the most fun and impactful experience of their life was, and odds are, they’ll say camp without hesitation.

So what is it about camp that impacts lives so deeply?

It’s the experience. It’s the life change.

I’m convinced camp is the closest to Heaven a kid will ever get until they actually get there. But camp isn’t a one-week wonder. It’s not a destination. It’s a launching pad. A life-defining, destiny-shaping moment that sends students back home changed, with eyes open to who God is and who He’s calling them to be.

That belief shapes everything we do at Lakeview Camp. It’s the mindset we train our team to carry into every area of ministry. Because strong camps don’t just create great memories. Strong camps build and strengthen churches. They raise up leaders. They impact communities. In many ways, camps are the front-line training grounds for spreading the Gospel and one of the most effective evangelistic arms of ministry we have.

Camp teaches life lessons. It embodies the Gospel. It invites students into worship, confession, repentance, joy, and calling, often all in the same week. 

When done well, camp builds healthy cultures, deep relationships, and lifelong connections between leaders who share the same heart and mission. It sparks better ideas, stronger models, clearer strategy, and renewed purpose, all rooted in spiritual encounter.

As camp leaders, we set the stage.

Everything we do points toward the altar moments that alter lives. That’s why excellence matters. That’s why we say, “Everything is about everything.” From facilities to food, programming to preparation, creativity to care, it all matters because it all serves the same end result. We do our best because eternity is at stake.

If most people come to Christ and sense God’s call on their lives before the age of eighteen, then we must give everything we have to this modern-day revival we call camp. When you see a beautiful camp landscape, intentional details, creative activities, and well-designed spaces, that’s not about aesthetics. That’s worship. That’s doing what we do unto God.

In many ways, we’re architects of encounter.

So we strive to make camp the most attractive, the most inviting, the most fun, the most creative, the best-fed, the most exciting, and yes, the most holy place it can be. Our goal is simple: to give students the best week of their lives.

Because the result is a sacred playground where lives are changed. And changed lives really do change the world.
